ode to moving forward.

Do you know those gurus that are giving out lectures for 200 dollars per session? In a stuffy room of a not so classy business hotel, people listen to those gurus throwing motivating catch phrases to a crowd that is mixed of those who made it already to success and can’t wait to get more and those that didn’t make it so far and probably never will. Well, I’m not one of those guys.

This is about not looking back and spending one day at a time without ever doing what you feel like.

Gute Laune

That long trip around Europe that you’ve been thinking about but every year something comes across and you tell yourself “next year is probably better”. That book that you’ve felt like writing all along because you just feel that you’ve got something to share. And also that job that is keeping your week miserable and you’re just living by counting down Monday to Friday, wondering when it’s finally weekend but every time you think about change, you’re afraid.

Frankly, it’s all a bunch of crap. I’m aware that not everything in life is that easy, especially money does not grow on trees and is just waiting for you to grab it. But then again, if you never try grabbing what you want, how would you know? Also, I’m not telling you this as an almighty omniscient guru, I’m struggling myself constantly with these things but at least self-reflection is the first stop to changing things.

My favorite quote about this:

“And then there is the most dangerous risk of all — the risk of spending your life not doing what you want on the bet you can buy yourself the freedom to do it later.” – Randy Komisar

This includes so much truth and although fear of failure is hidden in all of us when taking new steps and risks, you’ll grow personally with every step you take. In case you’re not happy at your job, start by studying for an extra qualification that might get you into something else. After getting into this and finishing, you’ll take the next step and test the waters for another job. Don’t lose sight of the goal, being more happy than what you’re now.

Things like that can sound easy but it takes a lot of courage at the same time. Listen to yourself, whatever you’re craving and unless you have to be unreasonably crazy to do it, then go ahead and just do it. And even in the case that it’s unreasonable, at least consider doing it, it won’t hurt you but will bring you closer to happiness.

  1. Thank you for making me think about these things too! I’m such a pessimistic person, it’s as if nothing will make me happy. It’s just how I’ve always been. But if you can think of a small way that might make me start writing my book, that would make me a little bit happy….
